Fish and Game Club Provides Youth Fishing Day
In an effort to involve more people in outdoor recreational activities, the Clark County Fish and Game Club, a dedicated non-profit, continued its yearly tradition of organizing the Youth Fishing Day. The top attraction of this year’s event was the joy and triumph expressed by young participants on catching fish, primarily bass and bluegill.
The Day’s Events
The annual event dubbed Bill Thiry Youth Fishing Day took place recently from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the lake near the club located at 1255 Water Works Road. The event, free for all children aged 16 and below who were accompanied by adults, saw attendees receive a rod and reel combo with the Club providing bait. The enjoyment doubled with the club providing meals and goodies and arranging for a range of exciting prizes.
Engaging the Youth
At the heart of this event was the attempt to engage young children in the pastime of fishing. “This is kind of an outreach for us… not too many people have a place where they can go out and fish for a day,” said Lee Kerr, the President of Clark County Fish and Game Club.
Exciting Family Outing
Jessica Hatton, who attended the event with her family, found the excitement of her children catching the fish to be the highlight of the day. Similarly, Billy Armell, a visitor from Georgetown, brought his great-grandchildren to the event, appreciating the effort of the club in organizing the event annually.
Community and Camaraderie
However, it wasn’t just the children finding excitement in the day’s events. Ernie Sammons, a long-time member of the club noted the event’s benefits for adults as well. He cherished the moments of friendship and camaraderie, meeting old friends, grilling and sharing stories.
Sponsors and Support
The event, attracting approximately100 kids every year, was actively supported by Troop 75 from Boy Scouts of America this year. Acknowledging the continued support, Kerr thanked the event’s sponsors, saying, “We have sponsors every year that want to come in and….sponsor us. Everybody can enjoy themselves.”
Conclusion
Organizations like Clark County Fish and Game Club contribute immensely towards community engagement and offer unique recreational opportunities to families. Events like the Youth Fishing Day not only involve young children in outdoor activities but foster a sense of community and friendship among the adults in attendance.
