First Ever ‘Wreath Run’ Held by Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter 5 and Winchester Elks

LEXINGTON, KY — Motorcyclists Gather for a Good Cause

Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter 5 and Winchester Elks joined forces to host their inaugural ‘Wreath Run’ today. This historic event attracted nearly a hundred bikers from around the region who rode from Harley Davidson in Lexington to the Elks Lodge in Winchester. The aim of the ride was to generate funds for Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring departed veterans.

Supporting Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America is known for its heartwarming tradition of laying wreaths each December 14th at veteran cemeteries across the country. In line with this mission, volunteers convene at Camp Nelson to pay tribute to these heroes who have hung up their boots.

“When you see the wreaths lying on headstones, it’s an incredibly moving sight,” shared Todd Matonich, the president of Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter 5. “Regrettably, not all families are aware of Wreaths Across America or might not be able to afford a wreath for their loved one. We believe it’s our duty to cover all 17,000 headstones at Camp Nelson and ensure that these veterans are remembered each day.”

Teaching Patriotism

Amelia Wisner, a volunteer coordinator with Wreaths Across America, encourages the community to get involved, particularly through education. “Teaching our children about patriotism and what it means to remember and honor is crucial. Our veterans’ sacrifices span across all wars, not just the recent ones,” Wisner noted.

The Ride ‘Wreath Run’ – A Success

With more than $8,000 already raised, the inaugural Wreath Run has been heralded as a major success. Those willing to volunteer can sign up on the Wreaths Across America’s website when it goes live in September. Options are also available for individuals to purchase wreaths or sponsor specific gravesites.

The first ‘Wreath Run’ by Rolling Thunder Kentucky chapter 5 and Winchester Elks turned out to be a significant event fostering unity and honor for the fallen. This laudable initiative not only raised funds to honor veterans but also reminded us of the essence of patriotism and respect for those who served.

Looking Forward

This is just the first of many more Wreath Runs to come, and as Rolling Thunder and Winchester Elks proved today, the spirit of unity and appreciation for our veterans is alive and well in Kentucky.
