Lane Closures on West High Street for New Speed Tables in Lexington

Lexington, Ky. – One lane of West High Street, specifically between Merino Street and Madison Place, will be closed starting Monday, Dec. 9, through Friday, Dec. 20. The closure aims to facilitate the installation of new speed tables, which are designed to enhance roadway safety.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government has issued a statement confirming that the closure will affect the right lane for approximately one week, after which the left lane will also be closed. The speed table installations will take place around the areas near Merino Street and Madison Place, consistent with prior speed table additions in front of Rupp Arena.

Throughout the construction period, access to Manchester Street at West High Street will be restricted. However, motorists will still be able to reach Manchester Street and the Central Bank Center garage via Oliver Lewis Way.

Speed tables differ from conventional speed bumps in that they are longer and flatter, providing a gentler way to slow down traffic. The city believes that these new installations will contribute to a significant improvement in traffic safety for all users along this stretch of roadway.

Motorists are encouraged to plan for potential delays and seek alternate routes during the construction period. Updates on the project will be provided as necessary.
