University of Kentucky Student Assaulted Near Campus, Investigation Underway

Lexington – A student at the University of Kentucky was sexually assaulted early Sunday morning at the intersection of Rose Street and Euclid Avenue. The victim reported that they did not recognize the attacker, prompting an investigation by campus police.

Authorities have since identified a suspect in connection with the incident, according to a statement from the university. The investigation is currently ongoing, with campus police working closely with those involved.

In compliance with the Clery Act, which mandates universities to inform their communities of serious crimes, the university released a crime bulletin on Friday. This bulletin is part of a series issued since the start of the fall semester, with this incident marking the fifth report related to sexual assault on campus.

The university’s most recent Campus Safety and Security Report defines sexual assault as involving rape, fondling, incest, or statutory rape. UK officials emphasized their commitment to supporting students who experience such incidents.

For students seeking help, the Violence and Intervention Prevention Center offers free and confidential support services. They can be contacted at (859) 257-3574 or through their website. Additional resources are provided by the Office of Student Success, accessible via studentsuccess.uky.edu/get-help.

Students may also report incidents of harassment or assault to the university’s Title IX Coordinator at (859) 257-8927. For emergencies or to report incidents directly, the UK Police Department Special Victim’s Unit can be reached at (859) 257-8573.

The university reiterated its dedication to the safety and well-being of its campus community, stating that “appropriate campus units are working with individuals involved to provide resources and support.” The heightened awareness surrounding these incidents highlights the ongoing need for vigilance and support strategies within college communities.
