LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2024)— In a bid to establish transparency in the appointment process, the University of Kentucky has decided to hold open forums for the four shortlisted candidates in the running for the new vice provost’s position. Candidate C is scheduled to engage in open dialogue with forum participants on Tuesday, May 14, in the Britt Brockman Senate Chamber of the Gatton Student Center.
The aim is to foster open communication and community input in key decision-making roles. The candidates’ identities and details will be available to the University community 24 hours before their scheduled forum on the dedicated search website. Those unable to physically attend may access the forum via Zoom.
After the conclusion of each forum, a recording along with a confidential online survey will be made available on the search website for a duration of 48 hours. This will give every member of the community an opportunity to assess the candidates, offer insights concerning their strengths, and discuss areas of improvement.
The four outstanding finalists mark a diverse pool of candidates who come with ample academic and administrative credentials and experience. All the participants are expected to engage in a broad range of topics, emphasizing their approach and ideas to advance the University’s mission.
As per protocol, the open forums will serve as a platform for engaging conversations between university community members and the candidates. UK Provost Robert S. DiPaola earlier announced a committee assigned with the task of conducting this search. The selection will be made after the forums, upon extensive review of the community’s feedback and the committee’s recommendations.
The University of Kentucky, being the state’s leading land-grant institution, aims to advance the Commonwealth by preparing future leaders, inspiring excellence in research and creative work, and offering service and healthcare. The University has over 200 academic programs, a $476.5 million research and development enterprise, and a world-class medical center, all operating within the confines of its campus.
In 2022, the University was awarded by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity. Despite the changing times, the University’s commitment towards serving the Commonwealth and the world remains intact, stressing the ethos that it is indeed the University for Kentucky.
