Sponsor Our ArticlesIan McClure has been appointed as the Vice President of Innovation for UK Healthcare, a role that will not only enhance innovation in healthcare services but also involve expanding the workforce with additional healthcare professionals. The University of Kentucky is poised to embrace new opportunities, including a $22 million investment for the Kentucky Livestock Innovation Center and a new PhD program in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
In a big move for the University of Kentucky and its healthcare team, Ian McClure has officially stepped up to the position of Vice President of Innovation for UK Healthcare. This isn’t just a title change; it’s a leap forward as the university is gearing up to meet some serious healthcare demands in the state of Kentucky!
You’ll remember McClure was already serving as the associate vice president for research, innovation, and economic impact. Now, he’s taking on even more by overseeing the UK Healthcare system’s innovation strategy! His role will play a key part in boosting the healthcare system’s ability to adapt and thrive in fast-evolving times. While embracing his new title, he will also keep up with his current responsibilities at UK Innovate, the university’s arm devoted to entrepreneurship and tech transfer. This means that he will continue to guide the university’s efforts to transform groundbreaking ideas into reality, ensuring that innovation is at the heart of what they do.
With Kentucky’s healthcare needs growing, UK Healthcare is planning to bring on board an additional 5,000 healthcare professionals over the next few years. That’s right, the team is expanding, and McClure will be an essential part of this recruitment mission. Currently, UK Healthcare employs about 9,000 individuals across various hospitals and clinics, but as healthcare demands increase, this number is sure to grow. It’s a bright future ahead, aiming for better healthcare services across the state!
So what does this mean for hospital visits? McClure’s vision is clear—he aims to make UK Healthcare an innovation leader. With a focus on cutting-edge technologies, exciting new products, and collaborative partnerships with other healthcare companies and community stakeholders, the potential for enhancing patient care is enormous. From improving patient experience to conducting critical research, the real aim here is to ensure better healthcare access through a forward-thinking approach.
This promotion to vice president comes amidst other personnel moves at the university. Taunya Phillips, who was director of the Office of Technology Commercialization for an impressive 25 years, has stepped down. Matthew Upton now holds the reins as the acting director of the tech transfer office, paving the way for new ideas and strategies. McClure has also shared his insights on technology transfer in the Kentucky ecosystem through a recent podcast, touching on how critical this is for the state’s growth.
In another exciting development, the Kentucky Livestock Innovation Center is emerging, fueled by a whopping $22 million investment from the Kentucky General Assembly. This state-of-the-art center will support livestock producers by introducing innovative technologies and providing essential education. Set to occupy 15 acres at the C. Oran Little Research Center in Versailles, it promises to enhance livestock production and sustainability while also featuring a Culinary Training Center geared toward increasing consumer demand for value-added products. The engagement from local agricultural associations showcases just how much this project is anticipated.
Even education is taking a big step forward! A new PhD program focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is brewing in partnership with INSIGHT Into Diversity. Aiming to equip scholars for leadership roles in higher education, this unique program will reside within the UK College of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation, pending faculty senate approval.
All in all, there’s a palpable sense of excitement hanging in the air at the University of Kentucky. With Ian McClure leading the way in his new role and various initiatives blooming across healthcare and education, the potential impact on the local community and beyond cannot be understated. Here’s to an innovative and bright future for UK Healthcare and the people it serves!
