Go ‘Strollin’ Through the Colon’ to Learn About Colorectal Health
A Unique Learning Opportunity at UK HealthCare’s Endoscopy Center
In a distinctive approach to health education, UK HealthCare’s Endoscopy Center is hosting a special event titled “Strollin’ Through the Colon”. The initiative aims to raise awareness about colorectal health, risk factors, and prevention strategies. As part of the National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the center opens its doors to the public on Wednesday, March 20, offering a unique opportunity to walk through the ‘Incredible Colon,’ an inflatable colon large enough for visitors to stroll through.
Exploring Inside the Incredible Colon
Located at the Albert B. Chandler Hospital Pavilion A lobby, the event will run from noon to 4 p.m. and is open to all. Inside the 12-foot inflatable “Incredible Colon,” attendees will find interactive exhibits offering beneficial information about colon health, screening options, and methods to prevent colorectal cancer. The UK Endoscopy Center team will also be on hand to answer any queries related to colon cancer screening, prevention, and early detection.
The Importance of Colorectal Health
Colorectal cancer ranks as the second-leading cause of cancer mortality in the U.S, making awareness about this disease crucial. However, unlike many cancers, colorectal cancer is largely preventable with regular screening. Current recommendations advise individuals at average risk to begin screening at the age of 45.
Screening and Treatment at UK Endoscopy Center
The center provides a variety of diagnostic endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies. These allow early detection and treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, optimizing colorectal health. Spanning multiple disciplines such as endoscopy, cancer treatment, surgery, pharmacy, and radiology, the center’s collaborative approach ensures comprehensive care.
