Transylvania University in Lexington Gears Up for Academic Year with Nearly 300 New Students, Fresh Programs and Revamped Initiatives

Excitement in Lexington as Transylvania University Welcomes New Students

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The vibrant campus of Transylvania University is abuzz with anticipation as it prepares to welcome nearly 300 new students for the upcoming academic year. With classes set to kick off on Tuesday, September 3, it’s clear that this school is not just about books and lectures; it’s also about creating a community that students can thrive in.

These incoming students had a chance to get a head start on campus life, moving into their dorms a week early. This thoughtful touch is a part of Transylvania’s efforts to make the transition into college as smooth and welcoming as possible. Student Orientation wasn’t just for students, though—parents of first-time students were also encouraged to join in, allowing them to voice any concerns and make connections with faculty.

Brien Lewis, the university president, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming school year. “We’re looking forward to being back over 1,000 students again for the second year in a row; the first time that’s happened since 2015,” he mentioned. Joining the new students is a diverse body of returning students, bringing the total enrollment to nearly 1,000.

This year’s move-in day was not just a logistical event but a celebration of sorts. One of the faculty members, Daniel Bennett, who teaches theater, reflected on his participation in every move-in day since joining the school. “I find it cool that we, as the faculty, can give back and kind of make that informal connection with students before the hustle and bustle of the semester,” he said. For many new students, this casual interaction can reduce the anxiety that often comes with starting college.

Making parents feel comfortable is equally important. Bennett pointed out that it helps parents see familiar faces – like faculty members their children might have in classes – and assures them that it’s completely normal to feel a mix of emotions during this time.

But what’s new at Transylvania University this year? There’s a lot happening! The university has revamped its stunt team program, which promises to add some flair to campus events. Additionally, the much-anticipated Mitchell Performing Fine Arts Series is launching this year, offering students and community members a taste of cultural engagement. Another exciting addition is the new center for entrepreneurship, set to open in mid-fall, designed to equip students with necessary skills to navigate the increasing demands of the business world.

These efforts reflect an ongoing commitment from the university to adapt and meet the needs of its students today. Lewis emphasized the importance of this evolution, stating, “We continue to evolve and meet the needs of students today.” It’s clear that Transylvania University is not only focused on academic growth but also on personal development, comfort, and camaraderie among its student body.

For many first-time students, moving away from home can be both exhilarating and intimidating. Thankfully, the supportive atmosphere at Transylvania University helps make this new chapter feel more manageable. The staff and faculty are genuinely invested in the success of their students, and the smiling faces around campus make it easier for newcomers to find their place.

As everyone gears up for the start of classes, the sense of community is palpable. Students are participating in various orientations, learning about resources available to them, and starting to make lifelong friends. Faculty members are keen to provide guidance and insight to help students navigate this pivotal transition in their lives.

In short, Transylvania University is ready to take on the 2024-25 academic year with excitement, support, and a strong sense of community. Whether it’s engaging in campus activities, forging new friendships, or diving deep into studies, new and returning students are bound to have an enriching experience. And with the new programs and initiatives rolling out, this school year promises to be unforgettable.

As the dust settles from the moving trucks and luggage carts, one thing is certain: the walls of Transylvania University will once again be filled with laughter, learning, and the spirit of exploration. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
