Lexington is set to welcome a new dining option as Tijuana Flats, a Florida-based Tex-Mex quick-service restaurant, prepares to open its first location in Kentucky. The restaurant will be located at 2344 Elkhorn Rd. Suite 100, positioned in front of Lowe’s near the Hamburg shopping area, just off Winchester Road and I-75.
The expected opening date is in mid-November, as Tijuana Flats makes its entry into the Bluegrass State, marking its expansion beyond its established presence in Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee. The new location in Lexington will not only be the chain’s first venture into Kentucky but is also part of a potential rollout of at least two additional locations in the Lexington and Central Kentucky area.
Tijuana Flats offers a menu featuring an array of Tex-Mex favorites such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and flautas. Signature dishes like Garlic Lime Shrimp Tacos and Street Tacos are made-to-order and served “Tijuana style” with fresh ingredients including jalapenos, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. All meals come with complimentary fresh tortilla chips.
Beyond its main offerings, the menu includes a variety of sides such as cilantro lime rice, refried beans, black beans, corn salsa, and churro fries. For those looking for party catering options, Tijuana Flats also provides DIY taco bars. Dessert options feature treats like the Churro Sundae.
A standout feature of the restaurant is the Hot Bar, which boasts an assortment of 14 specialty hot sauces ranging from sweet to spicy. Additionally, founder Brian Wheeler offers his own hot sauce line, “Smack My Ass & Call Me Sally,” available for purchase online.
The expansion into Kentucky comes on the heels of Tijuana Flats emerging from bankruptcy earlier this year following the closure of several locations. The Lexington restaurant represents a renewed commitment to growth for the chain, which aims to reclaim its position in the competitive fast-casual dining market.
As Central Kentucky continues to evolve as a culinary destination, the introduction of Tijuana Flats is poised to add a vibrant Tex-Mex option for local residents and visitors alike.
