Frankfort, Ky. – As the general election approaches, a significant increase in voter registration has been reported. Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams announced that 24,536 Kentuckians registered to vote in September, marking the highest monthly total for the year. The deadline for voter registration is October 7 at 4:00 PM.
Adams highlighted the growing engagement among Kentuckians, stating, “Kentuckians are increasingly tuning in to the general election.” Voter registrations can be made easily online at govote.ky.gov. However, despite the surge, this year’s figures remain low compared to 2020, which saw 54,494 new voters during the same period.
The report also shed light on voter registration maintenance, revealing that 5,404 voters were removed from the rolls in September for various reasons. These include deceased individuals, residents who have moved to other states, and duplicate registrations.
Regarding the current composition of the electorate, Republican registrants now make up 47 percent of the total, reflecting an increase of 14,283 voters. Democratic registrants account for 43 percent, with a slight rise of 414 voters. Additionally, Independents and other political affiliations encompass 11 percent of the electorate, growing by 4,435 voters.
As the election draws nearer, the surge in voter registration indicates a heightened interest among Kentuckians. The Secretary of State’s office encourages individuals to ensure they are registered by the upcoming deadline to make their voices heard in the upcoming election.
