Steak ’n Shake in Lexington Closed Indefinitely After Vehicle Crash Deems Building Unsafe

Lexington restaurant, Steak ’n Shake, has been indefinitely closed following a vehicle crash that occurred on November 16. The incident took place at 1832 Alysheba Way, located in the Hamburg shopping center. One individual was arrested for suspected DUI at the scene of the crash, which the Lexington Fire Department responded to around 11 p.m.

Upon inspection, code enforcement officials deemed the building unsafe for occupancy. An emergency order was issued by the fire chief to close the restaurant due to safety concerns. As a result, Steak ’n Shake is currently listed as temporarily closed on its official website.

The restaurant has received a 30-day condemnation, and officials have indicated it will likely remain closed until necessary repairs are completed. Lee Steele, a supervisor with the city’s division of code enforcement, confirmed that Steak ’n Shake is expected to conduct a damage assessment and obtain repair estimates soon.

Originally opened in late 1998, this fast-food location has served the Lexington community for over two decades. The ongoing situation draws attention to the challenges faced by local businesses following unexpected incidents like these. For now, patrons and employees of the Steak ’n Shake must await the outcome of the inspections and repair scheduling before the establishment can reopen its doors.
