Unique Sound Installation “Sun Boxes” Unveiled at Ashland Estate in Lexington

Unique Sound Installation Opens in Lexington

Lexington welcomes a distinctive auditory experience with **”Sun Boxes,”** a solar-powered sound installation created by acclaimed artist Craig Colorusso. The installation is situated on the grounds of Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate, and is available for public viewing from October 2 to October 6, 2024.

“Sun Boxes” features 20 speakers, each emitting a different looped guitar note. The loops draw energy from solar power, resulting in a constantly evolving soundscape as the day progresses. As the sun moves and the light shifts, the sound responds dynamically, encouraging visitors to immerse themselves in a tranquil yet energizing sound bath.

The location of this installation, Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate, is found at 120 Sycamore Rd. It offers a perfect blend of art and nature, creating an environment conducive to contemplation, relaxation, and connection with the surroundings. Open to all ages, this free installation, supported by LexArts, invites guests to engage with the art by walking among the speakers and exploring the estate grounds.

This immersive installation aims to encourage visitors to **slow down** and absorb the changing soundscape. Each visit promises a unique experience, with new auditory patterns emerging throughout the day. Whether a guest spends just a few moments or hours in the installation area, the continuous shifts in sound offer a refreshing take on how we perceive art and nature intertwined.

“Sun Boxes” runs during Ashland’s regular hours, making it an accessible event for anyone interested in a unique artistic experience. As the community gathers to engage with this installation, it serves as a reminder of the beauty found in simplicity and the importance of being present in the moment.

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience a remarkable fusion of sound and space in the heart of Lexington.
