Residents of Franklin County and neighboring areas are now eligible to sign up for the Solarize Frankfort program – an innovative scheme offering discounted solar installation rates through collective purchasing power. The program is open to homeowners, small businesses, farms, government agencies, and non-profit organizations in Franklin, Anderson, Henry, Owen, Scott, and Woodford counties.
The Solarize Frankfort program is a collaborative effort involving the Kentucky Solar Energy Society (KYSES), the City of Frankfort, the Franklin County Fiscal Court, the Kentucky State University Land Grant Program, the UK Cooperative Extension Service and Apogee-Climate & Energy Transitions. Its primary aim is to bolster local solar power growth and sustainability.
In addition to harnessing the cost benefits of bulk purchasing, participants will also be eligible for a valuable 30% federal tax credit on solar PV and battery storage systems. Notably, this credit is also available to non-profit and government agencies.
One of the tangible benefits demonstrated by the program is the potential cost savings on energy bills for homeowners. Case in point, an Indian Hills homeowner is set to save $63 on her monthly electric bills post installing a new solar array – it is expected to supply 95% of her net annual electricity needs.
This initiative shows the county’s commitment towards encouraging renewable energy use and aims to influence other communities to follow suit. With the increasing need for climate change mitigation measures, programs like Solarize Frankfort are instrumental in promoting a culture of sustainability while providing economic benefits.
The county officials also flagged the importance of increasing awareness about solar energy. To further this cause, they emphasized the need for educational outreach to explain the cost benefits and environmental implications of solar power adoption.
Interested participants are encouraged to sign-up for the program, following which they will be contacted for site inspections. This process will help in identifying the suitability of their premises for solar installation. Based on the assessment, participants will receive a proposal outlining the system specifics along with the pricing.
With Solarize Frankfort, the county is taking a giant leap toward embracing sustainability and urging the community to make an informed choice regarding clean energy.
