Tuesday dawned in Lexington, Kentucky with a handful of light rain showers that passed during the early hours. However, the majority of the region remained dry. This peaceful start soon shifted as rain and storm chances increased leading into midday. By lunchtime, the first wave of rainstorms hit the I-75 corridor. Despite the appearance, the weather did not pose a severe threat.
Scattered-to-widespread showers and thunderstorms had become a likelihood by the afternoon, persisting into the evening. This time marked a more isolated but heightened risk of severe weather. It was not a widespread threat, but it was significant enough for potential warnings to be issued. These weather conditions raised possibilities of damaging wind gusts, large hail and even a brief tornado.
In addition to the severe weather potential, heavy rain at certain periods led to a minor localized flood threat, particularly affecting low-lying and flood-prone regions. As a result, creeks and streams in these areas experienced rising water levels, causing concerns over potential flooding.
The threat of severe weather faded but the rain persisted into Wednesday. The forecast included more scattered showers and a few storms. Over these two days, rainfall totals approached one inch in most regions, with isolated areas facing up to two inches of possible rain.
Thursday provided some relief from the stormy weather, giving locals a much-needed break from the rain. However, this brief respite was not set to last as forecasts predicted unsettled weather patterns to return by Friday and last over the weekend. According to weather predictions, rainfall totals over the next week were estimated to reach between 2-3 inches in certain areas with unsettled weather continuing into the following week as well.
Given the changing weather conditions, it’s crucial to stay updated with the latest forecasts. Ongoing surveillance on these developing weather situations can help locals prepare for and mitigate potential risks.
