Lexington, KY – A new restaurant, Sassy Bleu Fine Southern Dining, has opened its doors, revitalizing the corner of Woodland and High streets with a menu steeped in home-style Southern comfort food. Launched by chef Sabrina Booker and her brother Herbie Booker, the eatery began service on December 4, occupying the historic location that was once home to the beloved Ramsey’s Diner.
Sabrina Booker expressed her fondness for the area, noting, “I used to come frequently to Ramsey’s and when it became empty I decided, ‘I want that building.’ I love the area.” Her vision is to continue the spirit of comfort food that was a hallmark of the previous establishment.
Set within an upscale atmosphere, Sassy Bleu distinguishes itself by offering what Booker terms “flavors of family love.” She emphasizes that each dish is prepared with quality ingredients, elevating it beyond your average soul food restaurant.
The menu features a selection of classic Southern dishes, including catfish, fried chicken, and mac and cheese. Unique items such as the soul rolls—an innovative twist on traditional egg rolls packed with sweet potato, collard greens, and mac and cheese—highlight the creative approach of this new eatery.
In keeping with tradition, sides like collard greens are freshly prepared and cooked with turkey for additional flavor. Some recipes come from Booker’s late sister, while family suggestions have influenced the menu, further cementing the restaurant’s foundation in family heritage. Notable additions include a popular salmon pasta and various pasta dishes that are slated to debut soon.
Other standout menu items encompass lamb chops, chicken & housemade waffles, and the Bleu Gourmet Burger, which is topped with rich bleu cheese. Additionally, the restaurant offers a variety of “Sassy Sandwiches,” salads, and several vegan and vegetarian options, alongside a kids’ menu and indulgent desserts like the Warm Skillet Cookie and a yet-to-be-released Peach Cobbler.
For those seeking a casual bite, a bar menu includes quesadillas, wings, onion rings, and salmon bites accompanied by lemon butter or dill sauce. The restaurant features a full bar with a selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.
With seating for 76 inside and a charming patio for outdoor dining, Sassy Bleu also offers carryout and catering services. Live music will be a part of the experience, creating a vibrant atmosphere for all patrons.
For diners interested in visiting, Sassy Bleu is located at 496 E. High St., operating Monday from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Wednesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Tuesday.
