Transylvania University Hosts Annual PumpkinMania Event, Celebrating Halloween with Community Artistry and Sustainability

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Transylvania University celebrated the spirit of Halloween this week by hosting its annual PumpkinMania event, featuring over 500 hand-carved pumpkins crafted by members of the Lexington community. This cherished tradition has been ongoing for the past 14 years, inviting participants of all ages and skill levels to contribute their artistic talents.

The event, which ran from October 27 to October 31, showcased the illuminated pumpkins, creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. Each night, the carefully carved pumpkins were lit, transforming the university grounds into a vibrant display of artistry and creativity.

Following the conclusion of the event, the community-minded spirit continued as the pumpkins, no longer needed for display, will be repurposed. On November 1, local farmers will collect the pumpkins to use as feed for livestock, ensuring that the pumpkins contribute to the local agricultural ecosystem.

PumpkinMania not only fosters a sense of community involvement but also emphasizes sustainability by finding use for the pumpkins after Halloween festivities conclude. This year’s initiative involved numerous volunteers who dedicated their time to the event, underscoring the collective effort that goes into making PumpkinMania a success.

Overall, Transylvania University’s PumpkinMania exemplifies a meaningful celebration of Halloween while aligning with sustainable practices and community engagement, making it a beloved event in Lexington.
