Lexington, Kentucky – Publix is set to open its first grocery store in Lexington on March 5, 2025. This much-anticipated grand opening will take place at 7 a.m. at Citation Point, marking a significant expansion for the popular supermarket chain in the Bluegrass State.
Prior to the grand opening, an early preview event was held on March 3, attended by various community leaders and VIPs, including Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Demetrus Liggins and Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers. Guests were treated to samples of Publix’s signature offerings, such as Chocolate Ganache cakes and a selection of specialty dips, highlighting the store’s variety as well as its community involvement.
The new Publix store will span 46,791 square feet and feature a wide range of grocery selections. Notably, there will be a seafood section with daily meat cutters and seafood flown in from Florida six times a week. Customers can expect grab-and-go options, including take-and-bake dinners and pre-packed meal kits to meet busy lifestyles. Furthermore, the store will embrace local offerings by stocking Kentucky produce and products from Weisenberger Mill, an important local supplier.
Among its popular items, the store will feature customizable deli sandwiches known as Pub Subs, available for $6.99 for a wrap or half sub, and $9.99 for a salad or whole sub. Shoppers will also find a variety of prepared foods, including chicken tenders, wings, shrimp, fried fish, smoked ribs, and pulled pork. Additionally, a hot soup bar will offer daily specialty soups, such as lobster bisque, to enhance the shopping experience.
Beside the main grocery store, there will also be a 3,200-square-foot Publix Liquors, which will provide a wide range of beer, wine, and spirits. Notably, the liquor store will feature an impressive 44-foot selection of bourbon, showcasing both specialty bottles and products from local distilleries, catering to local tastes and preferences.
For the convenience of its customers, the store will include a drive-thru pharmacy and will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. This new location is just the first of at least three Publix stores planned for Lexington, with additional establishments in development at the Fountains of Palomar and Romany Road, illustrating the company’s commitment to establishing a strong presence in this growing market.
Prior to opening, Publix demonstrated its commitment to community engagement by donating nearly 200,000 pounds of fresh produce to God’s Pantry Food Bank, showcasing its dedication to supporting local residents. Publix emphasizes exceptional customer service and aims to integrate itself within the local community, contributing to an overall positive shopping experience.
Publix began its expansion into Kentucky in 2024, opening its first store in Louisville. The introduction of its services in Lexington represents a pivotal moment for the company as it works to establish its brand in new areas.
