New Street Closures in Lexington Set to Impact Access to UK HealthCare Garage

Significant Perimeters to be Affected

Lexington, Ky. – In a recent announcement, officials drew attention to planned construction work on Elizabeth Street and Conn Terrace, set to commence from Monday, June 24. The resultant wide-scale road closures are speculated to cause significant disruption, specifically affecting motorist and pedestrian access in these areas.

Elizabeth Street is proposed to shutdown to through traffic, the commencement of which coincides with the work associated with the upcoming Cancer and Advanced Ambulatory Centre. Existing access to residential driveways would, however, be maintained with pedestrian walkways being predominantly available for local residents. While the walkway would remain functional, alternate pedestrian routes such as existing sidewalks on Transcript Avenue are suggested for wide-spread public use. As per the official timeline, Elizabeth Street north of Conn Terrace is set to reopen later this year.

Disruptions to Conn Terrace Traffic

Alongside Elizabeth Street, Conn Terrace will also be closed to through traffic, commencing June 24. This is attributed to planned utility work by Columbia Gas, affecting areas from Elizabeth Street to UK HealthCare Garage. Existing exits from the garage, obeying modified traffic regulations, will only allow traffic to move toward South Limestone under the new ordinance. Conn Terrace is projected to reopen to regular traffic patterns in around four weeks.

UK HealthCare reserved permit holders will also face fresh access restrictions under the new mandate. Access to the exclusive parking area at the UK HealthCare garage or the Shriner’s Hospital drop-off area via Conn Terrace will become impossible. To compensate for this, E8 parking permit holders are advised to access the garage via the Transcript Avenue entrance.
