Lexington, Ky – An investigation is underway following the discovery of a pipe bomb at Woodland Park on Sunday morning. The Lexington Fire Department confirmed that a bystander found the explosive device and promptly brought it to the nearby fire station on Woodland Avenue.
The park was temporarily evacuated as fire crews responded. In a precautionary measure, the bomb squad was deployed to safely dismantle the device. Authorities from the Lexington Police Department assured the public that there is no ongoing threat and that a thorough search of the park yielded no additional explosives.
While the incident has shocked local residents, many expressed their intention to continue visiting the park. Bebe Lovejoy, a regular at the park, stated, “They found a bomb in this area? Huh, I hadn’t heard that.” Daniel Grocer, who has frequented the park for 15 years, called the news surprising and described the notion of a bomb scare as “ridiculous.” Another visitor with over a decade of experience at the park remarked, “No it won’t change the way I think, yeah no I’m going to still keep walking through here.”
Authorities have not yet identified any suspects in connection with the incident. The Lexington Police Department has classified the case as active and is urging local residents and businesses to review their surveillance footage for any potential leads. Those with information relevant to the investigation are encouraged to contact the Lexington Police Department or submit an anonymous tip to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers at (859) 253-2020.
