An overnight collision in Lexington, Kentucky resulted in the tragic death of a pedestrian. Following extensive investigative processes, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office made a public announcement on Tuesday, June 11, at 7:50 a.m., identifying the deceased individual.
According to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office, Mr. Jacob Payne, aged 27, lost his life due to the severe blunt-force injuries he sustained after being hit by a vehicle.
Upon receiving reports of an injury crash around midnight at Newtown Pike and Maple Lane in Lexington, local law enforcement rushed to the scene. On arrival, they found a terrible incident had occurred involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, now known to be Mr. Payne, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to investigate the underlying cause of the accident and the sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
To ensure the best chance of understanding what had happened, inbound Newtown Pike remained closed until 2:30 a.m. This allowed the Crash Reconstruction Unit to thoroughly examine the scene and gather all possible evidence and information related to the unfortunate incident.
While it is clear that the incident involved a vehicle and a pedestrian, no further details regarding the driver of the vehicle or potential witnesses have been released by the authorities at this time. It is common in such cases for certain details to be held back to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
