This award reflects their unwavering commitment to workplace safety, highlighted by substantial investment in safety programs and a proactive culture of safety among their 181 team members who serve nearly 300,000 residents. NKWD is recognized as one of the select organizations for its excellence in safety management among 20,000 policyholders in Kentucky.
In a remarkable display of dedication and effort, the Northern Kentucky Water District (NKWD) has officially grabbed the spotlight by winning the prestigious 2024 Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance (KEMI) Destiny Award. What makes this feat even more impressive? This fantastic recognition marks the thirteenth consecutive year that NKWD has earned this award!
The key to NKWD’s consistent success lies in its unwavering commitment to safety. The President and CEO emphasizes that safety is not just a buzzword at the water district; it is a fundamental value that is actively practiced across the organization. This dedication to maintaining a safe workplace is obvious to everyone involved, from the highest-ranking officials down to the dedicated team members on the ground.
At NKWD, safety is a team effort that extends beyond just basic protocols. The organization’s board goes above and beyond to invest in well-established safety programs while also supporting innovative safety initiatives. Keeping employees safe is a priority, and it reflects a culture of safety that has been nurtured throughout the organization. This proactive approach ensures that safety remains a shared responsibility and a core part of the daily operations.
The KEMI Destiny Award is no small feat, recognizing organizations that excel in managing formal safety programs, conducting regular safety meetings, and offering valuable on-site training. Out of approximately 20,000 policyholders in Kentucky, NKWD is among the select few, with only 27 organizations receiving this elite honor. This achievement speaks volumes about their dedication to ongoing safety commitments at every level of the organization.
NKWD is armed with a knowledgeable and experienced Safety Committee, which plays a vital role in promoting workplace safety. The committee meets regularly to address any safety concerns and ensure that the workplace remains safe for all employees. They implement strategies and practices that keep safety at the forefront of every operation.
Currently, NKWD employs around 181 team members who work tirelessly to provide vital water services to the community. This dedicated team is responsible for ensuring that nearly 300,000 residents across Campbell and Kenton Counties, as well as parts of Boone, Grant, and Pendleton Counties, receive clean and reliable water every day.
Covering approximately 229 square miles, NKWD boasts an impressive network of about 1,330 miles of water mains, making it the largest water district in Kentucky and the third-largest water provider in the entire Commonwealth. This extensive service area is no small feat, highlighting just how crucial the role of NKWD is in maintaining community welfare.
With the award in hand and a solid foundation of safety practices, the future looks bright for the Northern Kentucky Water District. Their remarkable achievement stands as a testament to the magic that happens when an organization prioritizes safety and invests in the people who keep the community running smoothly. Winning the KEMI Destiny Award for the thirteenth time is not merely a reflection of past success—it’s a promise of more to come!
As they look to the future, NKWD members remain committed to upholding their high standards in workplace safety while continuing to provide excellent service to the residents they serve. Here’s to many more years of safety and service from the Northern Kentucky Water District!
