DV8 Kitchen Launches ‘North Carolina BBQ Sandwich’ to Fundraise for Hurricane-Affected Recovery Center

BBQ Sandwich Fundraiser

LEXINGTON, Ky. — DV8 Kitchen has introduced a new menu item called the ‘North Carolina BBQ Sandwich’ to aid in fundraising efforts for Hebron Colony Ministries, an addiction recovery center in Boone, North Carolina, that was severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. The sandwich will be available at both Lexington locations, with 100% of the profits directed towards helping the recovery center rebuild after the hurricane’s damage.

The initiative comes after Hurricane Helene caused substantial destruction, including damage to housing and essential equipment at Hebron Colony Ministries. Rob Perez, owner of DV8 Kitchen, was in Western North Carolina during the flooding and felt compelled to assist local community members. “We put out the word to all of our friends in the recovery industry and asked, who’s a really worthy candidate for a little help?” Perez explained.

This outreach led Perez to connect with Don Holder, the executive director of Hebron Colony. “He got my information, contacted me, and he told me that the Lord just kind of led him to me,” Holder noted, emphasizing the fortuitous nature of their collaboration.

The newly crafted Carolina-style barbecue sandwich features slow-roasted pork, fried okra, and slaw on a brioche bun, aiming to showcase the culinary flavors of the region while supporting a noble cause. Since the launch of the sandwich, DV8 Kitchen reports raising $8,000 for the recovery center, a significant contribution towards their rebuilding efforts.

Holder highlighted the importance of community support, stating, “We charge nothing for anyone to come here for a 10-week stay and we house them, feed them, love them, and share some great truth with them.” He recognized benevolent contributions as vital to maintaining their mission of service.

As DV8 Kitchen continues with this initiative, Perez expresses hope that the act of supporting North Carolina reflects the generosity Kentucky received following its own devastating floods in 2022. This fundraising effort not only highlights the bond between communities but also underscores the ongoing need for compassion and support in times of distress.
