Exciting New Vegan Spot Moody Mike’s Set to Open in Lexington

Exciting New Vegan Spot Opens in Lexington!

Lexington, Kentucky is buzzing with excitement as it welcomes Moody Mike’s, a new healthy choice restaurant that is sure to be the talk of the town. Owners Michael Anne and Antoine Harris have turned their dream into reality, bringing their passion for plant-based dining and deep local roots from Somerset, London, and Richmond. With the grand opening just around the corner, patrons can’t wait to see what this couple has in store!

From Food Truck to Café

If you’ve wandered through Lexington, you might have already tasted their delicious offerings from their popular food truck that has been on the scene since October 2020. After gaining a devoted fan base with their mouthwatering vegan dishes, they are thrilled to upgrade their operations with a brick-and-mortar café. Located just off East Louden Avenue on North Limestone, the place features a cozy courtyard adorned with an eye-catching mural of paper cranes – perfect for snapping a quick pic while you wait for your food.

Antoine reflects on their journey, “We’ve always talked about opening our own place. One of our first dates was hanging out at a vegan restaurant that isn’t there anymore. Fast forward to now, we’ve built Moody Mike’s from the ground up, beginning with our food truck and now expanding into this beautiful café!”

Meet the Harris Family

The Harris couple’s dedication to healthy eating comes from their personal experiences. Antoine grew up on a farm and enjoyed traditional meals full of meats. However, health issues prompted him to transition to a plant-based lifestyle. Michael shares, “I have always been lactose intolerant and got sick whenever I ate meat. It just made more sense for us to go plant-based.” Now, after eight years of commitment to this lifestyle, their culinary skills have evolved into something they’ll proudly serve to the Lexington community.

What To Expect When You Visit

What’s on the menu is just as unique as the couple behind it! The menu options frequently change based on what local, seasonal ingredients they can source. When you visit Moody Mike’s, be sure to try their famous Reuben sandwich; Antoine lovingly prepares every slice, and it’s often sold out within hours. Another fan favorite is their decadent desserts, including big oatmeal cream pies and rich cheesecakes. It’s not just a place for vegans; surprisingly, half their customers are meat-eaters!

According to Antoine, “We know our desserts are the big crowd-pleasers that can bring in the meat-eaters! People are often shocked when they learn it’s all plant-based, and we love to introduce them to the delicious side of vegan food.”

Community Support and Future Plans

From what seems like a whirlwind beginning, the couple acknowledges the overwhelming community support that’s kept them going. “People have come out of nowhere, offering us help. We can’t be more thankful for our loyal customer base and the families that support us,” Michael says gratefully.

Looking towards the future, the duo has dreams of broadening their reach, possibly expanding to larger restaurants, catering, and even a cookbook to share their favorite plant-based recipes. They aim to continually collaborate with local farmers through organizations like Black Soil to ensure they’re supporting the community and sourcing fresh, seasonal produce.

What’s Next?

Though they are knee-deep in the opening process, you can still catch Moody Mike’s food truck at various festivals and popular events around Lexington. Michael notes, “We’ve got plans to keep our food truck bustling even after the opening of our café.”

So if you’re in Lexington, keep an eye out for Moody Mike’s. Whether you’re a long-time vegan or just a curious foodie looking to try something new, the Harris family invites you to join them on this delicious journey!
