Lexington, KY – A series of crashes on New Circle Road have raised concerns for motorists, with several incidents reported over recent days. Among these, a significant collision involving a dump truck and a semi occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in temporary road closures. Fortunately, as of the latest updates, New Circle Road has been fully reopened to traffic.
The Tuesday crash took place on the inner loop of New Circle Road, just past Versailles Road. Responding crews worked diligently at the scene, restricting access to the road initially, but the left lane was opened later. Despite the tumultuous conditions at the site, further information regarding the specifics of the crash remains unavailable, as it continues to develop.
In a separate incident on Saturday night, three individuals were hospitalized with severe injuries following a crash on East New Circle Road around 11 p.m. The Lexington Police Department has indicated that initial investigations suggest a vehicle was allegedly traveling in the wrong direction prior to colliding with another vehicle. The condition of those hospitalized has been reported as critical, leaving family and friends anxiously waiting for updates. Investigators are continuing to explore the circumstances surrounding the incident, but it remains unclear whether any charges will be filed.
Earlier that Friday, there was another incident involving an SUV and a privately owned garbage truck at approximately 3:39 p.m. on New Circle Road. This collision resulted in minor injuries to one person, with the SUV driver receiving a citation for reckless driving. Prior to the crash, dispatch had reportedly received calls about the SUV driver’s dangerous behavior, highlighting the concern over road safety in the area.
Additionally, on the same Friday, at approximately 4:54 p.m., a serious collision occurred on the outer loop of New Circle Road at Versailles Road, involving a motorcycle and two passenger vehicles. The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of this crash and was taken to the hospital. Thankfully, there were no other reported injuries from this incident. The outer loop was closed between Georgetown and Versailles roads for several hours, causing traffic disruptions. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes until the road was eventually reopened around 8:30 p.m.
The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was dispatched to the scene of the motorcycle accident, further emphasizing the severity of the situation.
