Incentives being offered for people to move to Kentucky’s capital

Frankfort’s Incentive Initiative
The city of Frankfort in Kentucky is launching a new initiative aimed at attracting remote workers. Through a program called MakeMyMove, several unique incentives are being offered to those considering a move to the city. These include $5,000 in cash, opportunity to meet and mingle with the city’s mayor, and a VIP tour of the famous Buffalo Trace Distillery. It is estimated that the total worth of all these combined incentives reaches to about $6,150.
Eligibility and Requirements
Interested persons who wish to grab this golden opportunity must meet certain eligibility criteria. These include having an annual income of at least $100,000, currently residing outside of Kentucky, and having the capabilities to establish primary residency in Frankfort within six months of acceptance into the program.
Community Impact and Expectations
City Commissioner Kyle Thompson revealed that discussions about the remote worker plans began as far back as 2021, but implementation only commenced in 2023. Thompson sees this initiative as a great opportunity to attract individuals and families seeking a new vision or a place to call home. However, he also acknowledges that significant changes might take time to actualize. He compared Frankfort’s situation with other counties such as Shelbyville, Woodford and Scott, emphasizing that growth doesn’t occur overnight but rather requires meticulously planned long-term strategies.
The Commissioner also affirmed that the city has already started reaping significant benefits from the program, and residents can expect to witness a vibrant, evolving downtown landscape complete with a growing number of restaurants, stores, and hotels.
Vision for the City’s Future
Robin Antenucci, Executive Director of the Frankfort-Franklin County Tourism Commission, is also optimistic about the future of the city. She mentioned that citizens, particularly new residents, play a crucial role in boosting tourism as they bring along their friends and families. According to Antenucci, Frankfort not only offers ‘a good cost of living’ but also enjoys ‘pretty good weather year-round,’ making it an ideal place for people to settle down.
The Executive Director for Downtown Frankfort Inc., Suzy Hosley, also echoed the same sentiments, stating that the city’s downtown area has become more vibrant with new business establishments blooming and exciting events happening regularly.
As Frankfort continues to expand and grow, there’s much to be excited about. With the city offering quality of life combined with a low cost of living, the goal is clear. It aims to attract not only individuals but also businesses that can contribute to the community’s growth and prosperity.
