Mother Charged in Death of Three-Month-Old Son During Emotional Court Hearing

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A mother faces charges related to the death of her three-month-old son, Greyson Torres, in a court case that unfolded on Monday. Kaela Walker was visibly emotional as a detective recounted the serious injuries suffered by the infant, which the coroner has reported contributed to his death.

Detective Alex Epley testified that Greyson had sustained numerous severe injuries, including retinal hemorrhaging, swelling of the brain, and fractures to multiple bones. “He had bleeding behind the eyes, swelling to the brain, multiple brain bleeds, a fracture to the left arm, a finger on the right hand, and one of his legs,” Epley stated during the proceedings.

Defense attorneys for Walker argue that she too was a victim in a troubled relationship with Greyson’s father, Amancio Torres-Trevino. “He got back in contact with her; he’s now abusing the child. What did you want her to do in that situation?” the defense questioned, highlighting the domestic issues Walker faced.

In a bid for protection, Walker had filed an emergency protective order while at the hospital; however, the detective reported that she later fled with Torres-Trevino, leaving Greyson behind in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where he subsequently passed away.

The presiding judge expressed concern regarding Walker’s decision to leave the hospital with Torres-Trevino, stating, “My concern is that once Ms. Walker is safe in the hospital with her child, she did leave with Mr. Torres and try to flee.” Consequently, both parents were arrested and charged in connection to their son’s death.

In a notable development, Walker’s bond was significantly reduced from $100,000 to $10,000 under the condition that she wear an electronic monitor and reside with family members. In contrast, Torres-Trevino remains in custody after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing. His case has been referred to the grand jury for further proceedings.

This case continues to draw attention to the complexities of domestic abuse and child protection, as the community grieves the loss of a young life. The legal proceedings will determine the future for both Walker and Torres-Trevino as the investigation unfolds.
