Lexington, Ky. — Over two months have passed since a mass shooting on National Avenue left six people shot, resulting in one fatality, 31-year-old Antoine Clay. The incident occurred just after midnight on August 9, when the assailant reportedly exited a vehicle and fired into a crowd through an open garage bay door.
Currently, Lexington Police are actively investigating the case, though no arrests have been made to date. The shooting has reverberated through the local community, impacting businesses and residents alike. Shelby Noelscher, whose family owns a nearby business, Zeigler Stained Glass, described the area as a tight-knit community where “we all look out for each other.”
The aftermath of the shooting has left significant changes in the neighborhood. The restaurant El Cid has closed its doors permanently, and the only indications of signs of business remain are private property signs along with 24-hour video surveillance cameras recently installed by the building’s owner.
“Initially it was a little nerve-racking because you never expect something like that to happen in your own neighborhood,” Noelscher reflected. However, she expressed a sense of relief over time, stating she feels safe knowing that local first responders are working diligently to bring the shooter to justice.
Detectives urge anyone with pertinent information regarding the shooting to come forward. They can reach the Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600. Additionally, tips can be submitted anonymously to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers via telephone at (859) 253-2020, online at bluegrasscrimestoppers.com, or through the P3 Tips app.
The investigation continues as the community seeks closure and healing from this tragic event.
