Lexington, Kentucky – A Lyft driver has been arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a passenger on September 22. The suspect, identified as Abdulgayum Wardak, allegedly committed the crime in the early hours of the morning, near the intersection of Richmond Road and Lincoln Avenue.
According to law enforcement, the incident occurred when Wardak pulled over before reaching the victim’s intended destination. The passenger reported that he demanded either $100 or sex. After she refused his demands, Wardak allegedly climbed into the back seat and assaulted her.
Following the incident, Wardak fled the scene but was quickly identified by police through rideshare records. Officers acted swiftly and arrested him shortly after. He now faces serious charges, including first-degree sexual abuse and fourth-degree assault.
This incident has raised significant concern regarding the safety of passengers using rideshare services. Authorities continue to investigate the situation to ensure the safety of the community and to prevent future occurrences of such violence.
