Local Family Seeks Answers After Teenager Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver

LEXINGTON, Ky. – A local family is on a quest for answers after a serious incident involving their teenage son. A week ago, the juvenile was allegedly struck by a vehicle while walking on the sidewalk near the intersection of Loudon Avenue and Limestone Street. As the family grapples with the aftermath, they urge the unidentified driver to step forward.

On the day of the accident, Gerri Fawcette was on her way to pick up her grandson when she encountered the scene. “I saw the emergency vehicles so I slowed down, but you know you have to look to see what’s going on. I looked and said to myself, ‘That looks like Elijah, my grandson,’” Fawcette recounted.

Local authorities confirmed that the juvenile was struck while walking along the sidewalk. Emergency responders transported him to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. He has since returned to school, but is now relying on crutches for mobility.

“It was just shocking, like, oh my God. You just don’t expect that, especially to have someone just take off after hitting a child,” Fawcette added, expressing her family’s distress over the hit-and-run.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with investigators working closely with the family as they seek information about the driver responsible. Law enforcement has confirmed that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

The family is actively encouraging the driver to come forward, regardless of the circumstances surrounding the accident. In the meantime, officials are urging anyone with details to contact the Lexington Police Department or submit an anonymous tip to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.

The Lexington community remains on alert as investigations continue, underscoring the importance of accountability and safety on roadways. Community members are reminded of the collective responsibility to ensure pedestrian safety, particularly in busy intersections.
