Local Employers Gear Up for Holiday Season Hiring Surge in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. – As the holiday season approaches, employers in Lexington are ramping up efforts to fill seasonal positions that could provide a significant boost to their revenue. November and December are known to be critical months for retailers, accounting for up to a quarter of annual sales. With searches for holiday jobs on job platforms surging, employers are turning to staffing agencies for assistance in meeting their hiring needs.

The job search engine Indeed has reported that the demand for seasonal work has rebounded to levels seen before the pandemic. Notably, searches for holiday employment are up by 18% compared to the same time last year. This indicates a strong desire among job seekers to secure temporary positions as the holiday shopping rush begins.

“Anywhere that has an employee, we can help you,” said one local staffing agency owner. Agencies like Express Employment Professionals are stepping in during this busy time, leveraging their extensive databases to connect employers with qualified candidates. They boast a database of approximately 5,000 potential employees who are ready to fill seasonal roles.

Retail remains the dominant sector in seasonal employment, accounting for 66% of all seasonal job postings this year. Key areas driving demand include retail and logistics, especially for businesses focused on distributing goods during the holiday season. As the need for extra hands grows, companies are encouraged to act quickly to secure workers.

“We can mass text many people at once who are actively looking for work,” the agency owner emphasized. This efficient approach allows for a swift recruitment process, enabling businesses to quickly meet their staffing requirements.

The trend for hiring seasonal workers is expected to continue through February, as demand typically stays high until after the New Year. For both job seekers and employers, staffing agencies remain an essential resource during this critical hiring period.

As businesses prepare for the influx of holiday shoppers, the collaboration between employers and staffing services is crucial for ensuring a smooth operational flow. With a concerted effort from local agencies, employers are positioned to meet the challenges of the holiday season head-on, while job seekers are finding new opportunities during this busy time.
