Local Woman Aims to Make a Difference for Breast Cancer Fighters Through FabOver40 Campaign

Lexington, Ky. – A local resident is making strides to impact the lives of women affected by breast cancer through her participation in the FabOver40 campaign. Carla Switzer, who lost her mother-in-law to the disease, is representing Kentucky in this year’s competition aimed at raising funds and awareness for The National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The annual online fundraiser has generated more than $18 million since its inception in 2022, focusing on the urgent need for education and resources for women battling breast cancer. “We all know someone that has been directly affected by breast cancer,” Switzer states. “So many women need this, they need resources, they need education.”

The FabOver40 campaign not only raises money but also highlights the critical challenges many women face regarding breast cancer. Although the competition includes incentives such as a spa vacation, a feature on the cover of NewBeauty magazine, and a cash prize of $40,000 for the winner, Switzer emphasizes that her goal extends beyond personal gain.

“It’s not about winning. It’s about helping others,” Switzer asserts. She has dedicated the past month to campaigning for the cause, and currently leads her competition group. In a philanthropic twist, should she win, Switzer plans to donate $10,000 of her prize to assist victims of Hurricane Helene, showing her commitment to broader humanitarian efforts.

“I think it’d be wonderful to bring hope to so many people and families that are…without their homes and just trying to get their feet back on the ground again,” she adds, underlining her perspective on using the competition as a platform for greater good.

Voters can support Switzer by donating to her cause through the campaign link shared online, as she continues her efforts to contribute meaningfully to the fight against breast cancer and assist those affected by recent disasters.
