Rainy Start to an Active Workweek Expected in Lexington
For local Lexington residents returning to another workweek, there’s a mix of unsettling weather events on the way; starting from periodic thunder showers and storms precipitating to severe weather threats expected throughout the week.
Monday Weather Forecast
As of Monday, orbits of sub-severe thunder showers and storms are expected across the Lexington area. While heavy downpours and isolated occurrences of small hail are anticipated, overall, the storms should stay below severe criteria. The chances of these storms will decrease overnight, but a few isolated showers and thunderstorms are still expected to follow.
Tuesday’s Weather Outlook
Although Tuesday will commence on the drier note, afternoon might witness a ramp-up in the chances of storms. All regions of Kentucky are anticipated to face a Level 2 Severe Risk on this day. The two primary threats being large hail and damaging wind. In addition, there’s also a potential of isolated spin-up tornado.
Extended forecast for the Week
Expect the scattered rain and storms to continue through early Wednesday morning hours. The highest severe weather potential of the week falls between Wednesday and Wednesday night. A Level 3 Severe Risk has been put in place for much of Kentucky and across the Ohio Valley. All “modes” or types of severe thunderstorms are possible but the timing of the strongest storms is not certain just yet.
Wednesday afternoon and early evening may witness storms ahead of a line of strong-to-severe storms predicted to move in late the same night, extending into the early hours of Thursday. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes could be the severe threats, along with isolated-to-scattered flash flood in specific regions. Between Monday and Thursday, rain is foreseen to accumulate between 2-4 inches, with possibly heavier amounts within stormy areas.
During these volatile weather conditions, residents are urged to stay Weather Aware, particularly Wednesday evening and overnight, as severe storms could move in while many might be sleeping. Therefore, ensure to set up a way to receive weather alerts.
Weekend Forecast
Thursday marks a transition day where a cold front will sweep across the region, thus dropping outdoor temperatures moving into the Mother’s Day weekend. Afternoon highs might struggle to exceed the upper 60s, seeing daily isolated rain chances. Stay vigilant and regularly check weather updates.
