The city has also bolstered communication efforts with the Fayette County Public Schools to coordinate responses effectively during winter weather events.

Rob Allen, director of Streets and Roads, confirmed the readiness of salt and Beet Heet supplies, indicating further orders have been placed in anticipation of the incoming weather. Road crews are taking proactive measures by pretreating roads to ensure safer travel conditions as the storm approaches. Crews will report for duty at midnight, coinciding with the expected arrival of the weather system, and a large-truck contractor will join efforts at 4 a.m. to assist with clearing main roads.

Public Safety Preparations

Additionally, the Lexington Division of Police has prepared to adjust staffing as necessary, ensuring adequate law enforcement coverage during the weather event. Specialized traffic control equipment is also on standby for deployment as the storm progresses. To promote safety, police advise residents to avoid non-essential travel during the storm and ensure that their vehicles are prepared with a full tank of gas, water, snacks, and warm items for emergencies.

City officials are emphasizing that 911 should not be used for inquiries regarding road conditions. Instead, residents can access information about snow removal, delays, and live traffic cameras by visiting the city’s website. Non-emergency inquiries can be directed to the Lexington Police’s non-emergency number.

Waste Management and Community Services

Waste Management has announced that regular waste pickup will continue on Tuesday, although some delays may occur due to snow. Residents are reminded to keep dumpster areas clear to facilitate pickups. The city’s Fleet Services maintenance garage is primed to support public works and safety crews, ensuring that all equipment operates smoothly during the inclement weather.

The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has activated its Emergency Winter Weather Plan to assist vulnerable populations during this period. This activation will be in effect through Tuesday, February 11, with a possibility for extension if necessary. Outreach staff are actively working to locate unsheltered individuals and facilitate their access to emergency shelters. The shelters will temporarily relax restrictions for those who have been previously suspended for behavioral reasons, thereby increasing access to necessary services.
