Lexington Ranks Fourth in 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Cities in America

Lexington has once again been recognized as a premier travel destination, earning the fourth spot in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards for the best small cities in America. The city received a remarkable 575,048 votes from readers, who highlighted its diverse attractions beyond its status as the Horse Capital of the World.

Condé Nast Traveler emphasized that while Lexington is renowned for its horse racing venues, the city’s true charm lies in its dynamic dining scene. The travel magazine specifically mentioned local favorites such as Doodles for loaded breakfast sandwiches, Bourbon on Rye for craft burgers topped with beer cheese, and Crank & Boom, known for its unique ice cream flight offerings.

Ranking just behind Alexandria, Virginia and ahead of notable cities like Greenville, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia, Lexington’s position reflects strong appreciation from travelers. The top three small cities included Charleston, South Carolina at number one and Santa Fe, New Mexico at number two.

This accolade is part of a series of recent recognitions for Lexington, which has been noted for its low cost of living and high quality of life. Such evaluations highlight the city’s appeal to both tourists and potential new residents looking for vibrant urban living without the hefty price tags found elsewhere.

In summary, Lexington continues to be a standout destination within the competitive travel landscape of the United States. Travelers seeking rich culinary experiences and the unique culture of Kentucky can find much to enjoy in this flourishing city.
