Sponsor Our ArticlesResidents of Lexington can expect a delay in trash pickup services following Winter Storm Blair, which dropped over 7 inches of snow and ice. The city has announced new collection dates: Monday pickups will now occur on Thursday, and Tuesday pickups will be moved to Friday. Waste management crews will be working double shifts to manage the backlog, and residents are advised to put out their trash carts the night before. There will be no recycling or yard waste collection this week, but a Free Trash Disposal Day is scheduled for Saturday.
Lexington residents can breathe a sigh of relief! After the recent Winter Storm Blair, which blanketed the area with over 7 inches of snow and ice, the city is gearing up to resume trash pickup services, albeit with a slight delay. So, grab your calendars and get ready to make some adjustments for your weekly garbage routine!
With the storm causing some interruptions in the regular trash collection schedule, here’s what you need to know:
To make the process smoother for everyone, residents are strongly encouraged to put out their trash carts the night before collection days. This will help ensure that nothing gets missed and that our friendly waste management crews can work efficiently.
Speaking of waste management crews, they’ll be pulling out all the stops! To handle the overflow of garbage collected from two days’ worth of service, crews will be working double shifts. This means they’ll be busy clearing all that accumulated trash as quickly as possible. Although they’ve got their work cut out for them, they are dedicated to keeping Lexington clean and tidy!
It’s important to note that this week there will be no recycling or yard waste pickup. So, if you had plans for those areas, put them on pause as the city focuses on catching up with regular trash collection.
Attention business owners! If your dumpster service typically falls on Monday or Tuesday, your service days will shift to either Thursday or Friday, depending on how easily crews can access the locations. To facilitate this, it’s crucial to clear any snow that may be blocking access to your dumpster enclosures. Additionally, check that any locks are working well and not frozen, to help the waste management teams do their job.
Mark your calendars for an extra opportunity to declutter: a Free Trash Disposal Day is still on the agenda for this Saturday! Residents can bring their items to disposal from 6 a.m. to noon. It’s a fantastic chance to clear out some unwanted items after the storm!
In summary, Lexington is getting back on track after Winter Storm Blair’s chilly visit. Adjust your schedules accordingly, help our waste management teams by clearing your contributions, and make sure to take advantage of the free disposal day. Let’s keep our community beautiful and trash-free!
