Significant Road Closures and Lane Restrictions in Lexington Due to Summer Construction Projects
Construction Projects Begin Monday
Starting Monday, residents in Lexington should brace for numerous road closures and lane restrictions due to several construction projects scheduled for this summer. One of the major roads to be affected is Southbend Drive, which will be closed from Clays Mill Road to Lafayette Parkway. City officials have noted that crews will be working on installing a new sanitary sewer line at the site. This closure is expected to extend throughout the summer, with plans for the road to reopen just in time for the school re-opening day on August 14th.
Lane Closures on Leestown Road
In addition to Southbend Drive, parts of Leestown Road will also be affected. Starting Monday evening at 7 p.m., Leestown Road will be reduced to one lane in either direction. Moreover, the exit ramp from eastbound New Circle Road to Leestown Road will be limited to one lane. These closures are significant to the construction of a double crossover diamond bridge, which is a part of the larger New Circle Road widening project. The project is set to be completed by 2027.
Impact on Commuters and Traffic Flow
These road closures and lane restrictions will inevitably impact traffic flow and daily commutes. Residents who rely on these roads for their daily commutes are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow for additional travel time to navigate around the construction activities. Local authorities are asking motorists to drive with caution and follow detour signs as they navigate through different routes. With construction scheduled to happen throughout the summer, disruption to regular traffic flow is anticipated.
New Sanitary Line Installation
The installation of a new sanitary line at the creek crossing is a significant infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving sanitation in the region. Though this project will result in some inconvenience due to the road closure, the authorities have reassured the public of long-term benefits. They believe improvement in the sewage system will undoubtedly have positive effects on the quality of life for the residents.
Advice to Motorists
While these construction activities may cause inconvenience, motorists are reminded that they are essential for the improvement of the city’s infrastructure. Therefore drivers are encouraged to be patient, plan ahead, and most importantly stay safe by adhering to traffic rules and guidelines implemented due to the construction. The safe and smooth completion of these projects depends on the cooperation from every road user.
