Lexington, Ky. – Lexington Police are investigating a series of connected shootings that occurred on Saturday afternoon. The incidents took place in neighborhoods along Richmond Road, raising concerns among residents regarding their safety.
The first set of shots fired was reported just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Old Todds Road and Palumbo Drive. Witnesses reported seeing occupants of two vehicles exchanging gunfire. This incident is believed to be linked to subsequent reports of gunfire at Patchen Drive and Stonehedge Place and another at Patchen Drive and Mt. Tabor Road later that afternoon.
One resident described the chaos, stating, “It sounded like a war zone honestly. It sounded like we were on a shooting range.” Another witness recounted seeing a black car followed closely by a white car, with a man in the white car firing from the backseat. “I heard 20 rounds, there were over 30 shell casings in the road near our house,” the witness added.
Residents in the Patchen Drive area expressed their fear and frustration. “How are we supposed to feel safe if people are driving through neighborhoods shooting like that?” a concerned couple, who wished to remain anonymous, stated. They highlighted the potential danger of stray bullets impacting innocent bystanders.
Neighbors are also questioning the lack of safety alerts from local authorities during the incidents. “They got out of their cars, clearly on foot. The car was left with the door open. Where did they go? How did they get away when there were people all over?” one resident asked.
As of now, police have not confirmed any suspects or provided descriptions of the weapons involved. While they have acknowledged property damage as a result of the gunfire, the investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
With the community on edge, affected residents are seeking answers and increased measures for public safety in the wake of the shocking events.
