LEXINGTON, Ky — Further details have emerged surrounding the case of a man identified as the suspect in a shooting that took place in Lexington earlier this week. The incident occurred near the intersection of Winchester and Liberty roads, where a woman was reportedly shot. Law enforcement officials have since disclosed that the suspect, Demetrious Maxberry, has been captured.
On Tuesday, a woman was reportedly shot in the vicinity of Winchester and Liberty roads. According to the reports in the police’s arrest citation, Maxberry was spotted on video launching gunfire into a vehicle. Witnesses at the scene, as well as other passengers present in the car during the incident, revealed to investigators that the victim is the former girlfriend of Maxberry and also the mother of his child.
The woman, who has not been publicly identified for her safety, is expected to make a full recovery following the incident. In a turn of events, Maxberry now faces charges of assault, wanton endangerment, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
An arraignment on Wednesday afternoon has led to a not-guilty plea being entered for Maxberry. He is due back in court on July 3 for a preliminary hearing.
