LEXINGTON, Ky. — A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a local teenager, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation. Jon’tay Mattingly, 19, was taken into custody on Thursday, following the fatal shooting of Kenlon Johnson, 17, which occurred on March 8, 2024.
Johnson was shot outside a residence on Rockaway Place. He was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Authorities are treating Johnson’s death as a homicide.
Detectives were able to identify Mattingly as a suspect utilizing the city’s Real-Time Intelligence Center, which includes advanced surveillance technologies like the Fusus platform and Flock Safety license plate readers. These tools have been instrumental in gathering evidence and tracking suspects in recent criminal investigations.
Mattingly faces charges of murder in connection with Johnson’s shooting, in addition to unrelated warrants. He is currently held at the Fayette County Detention Center, where his bail status has yet to be determined.
