Lexington, KY: Local drivers should prepare for notable road closures and lane restrictions scheduled to commence this summer due to several construction projects.
Starting Monday, Southbend Drive will be closed from Clays Mill Road to Lafayette Parkway. The city’s public works department has announced that crews will be working on the installation of a new sanitary sewer line at the creek crossing. This closure is expected to last throughout the summer, with a target for the road to be reopened by school opening day on August 14th.
Additionally, parts of Leestown Road will also experience lane closures. Beginning Monday night at 7 p.m., traffic flow on Leestown Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction. Further, traffic from eastbound New Circle Road exiting onto Leestown Road will also be reduced to a single lane.
The lane closures are part of the construction process for a new double crossover diamond bridge. This bridge is a major component of the New Circle Road expansion project, which is currently being undertaken and is expected to be completed by 2027.
Given the significant roadwork and the consequent traffic delays, drivers are advised to plan alternate routes. Additional travel time should also be factored into daily commuting schedules until the completion of these projects.
Various forms of disruptions, including increased traffic, noise, and dust, can be expected due to the construction activities. However, these enhancements are geared towards improving the overall road infrastructure and providing better commuting experiences for Lexington residents and visitors in the long term.
For up-to-date traffic information and news on these projects, citizens are encouraged to subscribe to local traffic alerts or frequently check local traffic websites to plan their daily commute accordingly.
