Road Closures in Lexington from Monday Due to Construction Projects
Significant Closures and Restrictions Announced
The city of Lexington is gearing up for road closures and significant lane restrictions this summer due to multiple construction projects. Starting Monday, significant portions of Southbend Drive and Leestown Road will be affected.
From Monday, Southbend Drive will be fully closed off from Clays Mill Road to Lafayette Parkway. The closure comes as crews undertake the installation of a new sanitary sewer line at the creek crossing. The ongoing work is scheduled to continue through the summer with the reopening of the road targeted for August 14th, in time for the first day of school.
Leestown Road Lane Closures
Further disruptions are planned on parts of Leestown Road. Starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Leestown Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction. In addition, the exit ramp from eastbound New Circle Road to Leestown Road will be reduced to only one lane. These modifications are required to facilitate the construction of a double crossover diamond bridge, an integral component of the New Circle Road widening project.
Project Completion Date
This extensive construction project, which promises significant changes to Lexington’s road network, is expected to be completed by 2027.
Call for Alternate Routes
Given the extent of the closures and restrictions, drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time during construction. The city also urges road users to respect the instructions provided by traffic management personnel and to be cautious when navigating the restricted areas.
Local Reaction
The news of the road closures has understandably evoked mixed reactions from the residents. While some are concerned about the disruptions and potential traffic congestion, others see the initiative as a step towards improving the overall infrastructure in the city.
Stay Informed
Citizens are encouraged to stay updated about these changes by checking official announcements regularly. Additionally, drivers can adjust their routes and timings according to the situation and keep a lookout for real-time traffic updates.
