Lexington will see road closures beginning next week as part of ongoing construction efforts. Starting at 6 p.m. on December 6, a section of Squires Road situated between Richmond Road and Brookewind Way will close for approximately one week. The road will remain inaccessible over the weekend.
On December 9, Squires Road will reopen at 6 a.m. but will be subject to closures from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day until December 13. This strategic closure is part of a sidewalk project aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and accessibility in the area. Additionally, the construction will address drainage improvements necessary for the nearby shopping center located at the intersection of Squires and Richmond Roads.
During the closure, there will be no access to Squires Road from Richmond Road. Drivers will need to follow a detour via South Eagle Creek Drive and Cove Lake Drive to access Squires Road. Those looking to reach the Lake Crossing neighborhood can utilize Shoreside Drive and Brookewind Way as alternative routes.
Squires Road has long been a popular shortcut, providing connectivity between Alumni Drive and Richmond Road. With the impending improvements, Lexington officials hope to enhance not only the infrastructure for pedestrians but also improve traffic management around the shopping area.
Residents and commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly to mitigate inconvenience during the closure period.
