Lexington Launches Recycling Program for Political Yard Signs to Promote Sustainability

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The city is taking steps towards environmental sustainability by initiating a recycling program for yard signs used during the 2024 election. Residents are encouraged to drop off their unwanted political yard signs at designated locations throughout Lexington.

This recycling initiative is a collaboration between the city and local partners Rumpke and Trex. Yard signs can be deposited until November 18, with one of the key drop-off sites being the Government Center on East Main Street.

The motive behind this program is to reduce waste and promote recycling in the community. City officials hope to efficiently repurpose the materials from the signs, ensuring that metal stakes are either reused or processed as scrap metal. This effort not only aids in maintaining a cleaner environment but also supports the city’s goals for sustainability.

Residents are reminded to participate in this initiative as a means of positively contributing to the community’s ecological footprint. The recycling program highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to sustainable practices and encourages engagement from local citizens.

All residents are asked to consolidate their signs and take advantage of this opportunity to recycle as the election season concludes. The awareness and participation from the community will be crucial in making this initiative a success.
