Military Missions Operation: Easter Care Packages for Soldiers

Community Coming Together to Show Support

Here in Lexington, Kentucky, Military Missions, a local nonprofit organization, is bracing itself with both supplies and volunteers to carry out their annual Easter gift project for troops stationed away from home. With just a few days left for the grand operation, the ambiance is charged with zeal and compassion.

About the Initiative

Founded in 2005, Military Missions gathers everyday essentials like food, clothing, bedding and more for soldiers stationed away from home, bringing a taste of comfort, a piece of home, to the brave hearts protecting us. The initiative, run entirely by volunteers, relies completely on donations from the community to serve its noble mission. In 2019, they successfully delivered around 8,500 care packages to soldiers, and now they’re ready to step up their game.

Donations are accepted at their Lexington-based drop-off location as well as online, through their website, allowing people far and near to contribute to the cause.

On the Inside: Military Missions

One of the key figures behind this selfless expedition is Col. Mark Roland, an Air Force veteran who, after 30 years of service and various leadership roles, joined the noble cause. He and many other volunteers are getting ready to pack special care packages for the troops, just in time for Easter.

“We centered this around Easter as a holiday that is normally a family holiday so that they kind of get that familiar taste.” Roland shared, reinforcing the main objective behind the initiative.

The Care Packages

Each care package will hold individually wrapped food items, clothing articles, and hygiene products, all hand-picked and packed meticulously to ensure absolute quality. The organization is now collecting single travel-size snacks, men’s and women’s socks and women’s hygiene items in preparation for the initiative.

They aim to prepare and dispatch nearly 2,200 such packages to soldiers this year, continuing their legacy of caring for those who protect us. “Knowing what it’s like to be away from home and away from all those things that you’re familiar with provides these guys just something to be remembered,” he said, expressing his understanding of the soldiers’ situation.

A Heartwarming Response

The local community, as always, has shown massive support. The efforts put forth by Military Missions to bring the community together and display their appreciation for the brave hearts are deeply revered by everyone. Their volunteer-driven operation is all set to deliver love, care, and a taste of home to our soldiers, reminding them that they matter and are remembered.
