Lexington Pride Center hosts Rainbow Run 5K
LEXINGTON, Ky – The Lexington Pride Center is hosting a thriving event known as the Rainbow Run 5K to kick off the city’s pride festival. The fun run is more than just a social gathering – it is an occasion of unity, support, and positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community. The State Department has issued a travel warning to members of the LGBTQ+ community or those planning to attend pride celebrations worldwide due to a potential rise in violence.
Creating Safe Spaces
The Lexington pride festival, a flagship event of the Lexington Pride Center, is recognized as a safe space for anyone willing to participate and show their support. “Anywhere the Lexington pride festival is, there’s a safe space for you,” Catherine Taylor, the development director of the Lexington Pride Center, expressed. The Rainbow Run 5K signifies the launch of the pride festival and bonded people together with love uppermost in everyone’s hearts.
Impact of Rainbow Run 5K
According to Taylor, the Rainbow Run 5K is a major fundraising activity for the larger pride festival, which has seen over 30,000 participants in past years. It provides an outlet for community participation, not only physically but also financially. Taylor explained, “Rainbow run allows us to expand the festival. By expanding, we can welcome more people, more vendors, and more exciting things. It helps us secure performers, keep our doors open, and make the event more accessible.”
The Power of Community Support
Over the years, the 5K run has expanded its reach and impact, generating much larger participation than previously. The impact of community support was witnessed through the thousands of participants attending this year’s event. The run was not the only form of support provided by the Pride Center. “We offer resources, we have support groups. This Center, this festival, this run, all contribute towards creating safe and supportive spaces for the LGBTQ+ community,” Taylor affirmed.
