Lexington police have arrested two individuals following an incident involving gunfire on Thursday night. Michael Coffey, 36, and Chiara Johnson, 29, face serious charges stemming from the events that unfolded on Monterey Court around 10:20 p.m.
According to arrest citations, Coffey was a passenger in a vehicle when he allegedly discharged a firearm, causing damage to the driver’s side window. He has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, first-degree wanton endangerment for discharging a weapon, and fourth-degree assault related to dating violence.
The situation escalated when Johnson reportedly ran over Coffey with her vehicle, leading to his multiple injuries. Johnson’s citation reveals that upon the officers’ arrival, she backed out of a driveway and approached the officers at a high speed, stopping mere feet away. She is charged with second-degree assault involving domestic violence and second-degree wanton endangerment concerning the police officers.
This incident is part of ongoing investigations into the circumstances that led to the shots being fired. Fortunately, despite the vehicle being struck by gunfire, there were no reported injuries at the time of the police response.
Both Coffey and Johnson are currently detained at the Fayette County Detention Center. The investigation remains active as authorities gather more information about the events that transpired on Monterey Court.
