Lexington, KY- The Kentucky landscape is set to blend Hollywood glamor with bluegrass charm. A former movie theater that had been vacant for the past decade in Lexington, Kentucky, has been transformed into LEX Studios, a state-of-the-art TV and film production facility.
The movie theater had sat silently over a period of ten years. However, it has emerged, after a four-year transformation, as Kentucky’s largest film and TV production facility. LEX Studios offers more than 50,000-square feet of space that cater to all production needs from sound stages to makeup rooms.
LEX Studios manager, Tim Sabo, ensures the facility is ready to support any production that comes its way. While Sabo juggles a variety of roles, one of his primary responsibilities is to promote the studio and Kentucky as a premier filming location.
Promoting Kentucky as an excellent filming destination has become easier due to the vibrant incentive the state offers to production creators. The sterling incentive package provides creators with a cash refund of 30-35% on certain expenses. This incentive, combined with the natural beauty and rich culture of the commonwealth, makes Kentucky an attractive location for many production companies.
Misdee Wrigley Miller, the proprietor of LEX Studios, and its sibling company, Wrigley Media Group, opined that every TV and film production that shoots in Kentucky directly impacts the local economy by creating more job opportunities.
Sabo and Miller have worked tirelessly over the last four years to turn the former movie theater into a “living set.” In this context, a living set implies that every corner of the establishment is ready to be used for a scene, which can lead to significant cost savings and more efficiency for filming crews.
In addition, LEX Studios is looking to enrich the community by partnering with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. This collaboration is expected to result in an increased number of certification and internship opportunities for students.
With the establishment of LEX Studios, a new chapter is unfolding in the entertainment industry of Kentucky. Showcasing the state’s natural beauty and local talent, the studio aims to lure more productions to the Bluegrass State and, in doing so, bolster the region’s economy on multiple fronts.
LEX Studios is both a testament to the growth of Kentucky’s entertainment sector and an affirmation of the state’s commitment to supporting the industry. As film and TV productions find a new home in Lexington, it’s clear that the commonwealth is all set to shine in the national and international entertainment spotlight.
