Lexington Health Officials to Launch Mosquito Spraying in Response to Increased Activity

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Health officials are set to initiate mosquito spraying efforts in response to a notable increase in mosquito activity within the city. The spraying will occur on Wednesday and Thursday, targeting specific neighborhoods to mitigate the potential risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

The Lexington Health Department will concentrate on the 40504 ZIP code area on Wednesday, followed by additional neighborhoods on Thursday, which include the Dogwood Trace, Sycamore Road, and Johnsdale Drive zones. The decision comes after monitoring efforts revealed higher-than-usual mosquito populations in these locations.

According to the health department, the intensified spraying aims to reduce mosquito numbers in residential areas, promoting public health and safety. Residents are urged to stay updated on the spraying schedule and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Officials recommend the community take protective measures including wearing long sleeves and using insect repellent with DEET when outdoors, especially during dawn and dusk hours when mosquitoes are most active.

The spraying operation reflects ongoing efforts by local health authorities to combat mosquito populations, especially during peak seasons when the risk for diseases such as West Nile Virus can increase.

For more information, residents can contact local health officials or check community bulletins regarding the spraying schedule and recommended precautionary measures.
