In the heart of Lexington, Kentucky, a remarkable occasion unfolded as the community rallied to show gratitude for one of their own. LaTonya Bartholomew, a local veteran who dedicated 22 years of her life to serving in the Army, was the surprise recipient of a brand new, platinum-warranted roof, courtesy of a collaboration between Owens Corning and Bone Dry Roofing through the Roof Deployment Project.
“We’re gonna give this well-deserving veteran here a brand new roof, and we’re excited to do it,” expressed Bill Carroll, production manager at Bone Dry Roofing. This gesture was more than just a home improvement; it was a heartfelt thank you for the sacrifices military members make for our country.
This initiative, led by Owens Corning, partners with roofing contractors nationwide to support veterans by providing them with much-needed home repairs. Kelly Street, area sales manager for Owens Corning, remarked, “To just show our appreciation in a very small way for all of the large sacrifices they’ve made,” highlighting the importance of this program.
LaTonya is not only a veteran but hails from a family steeped in military service. With several relatives who have also served, including those who have completed tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq, she understands firsthand the commitment and challenges that come with military life. “This is where we all come, my brother; when he’s in town, this is our home,” LaTonya shared, emphasizing the significance of their Lexington residence as a family gathering place.
Reflecting on the project, LaTonya expressed her gratitude, noting that “it gets to bless all of us all at once, so we’re beyond grateful.” Her appreciation is echoed among community members who regard her as a hero. The community’s support underscores the sentiment that serving those who have served us is paramount.
Since the Roof Deployment Project’s inception in 2016, over 575 military members across the United States have received new roofs, making this initiative a beacon of hope and recognition for countless service members. The project not only provides functional improvements to homes but also serves as a symbol of national appreciation.
With the roof installation process slated to begin soon, LaTonya and her family eagerly anticipate returning to their home with their new roof overhead. The excitement is palpable, as locals throughout Lexington are thrilled to witness the event unfold and lend their support.
In a world often filled with division and challenges, occasions like these remind us of the community’s capacity to come together for a common cause. It highlights the enduring spirit of gratitude and unity, showcasing what it truly means to honor those who have devoted their lives to protecting the freedoms we often take for granted.
Community initiatives like this one are essential for strengthening the bonds between veterans and their neighborhoods. They serve to recognize the invaluable contributions of service members while fostering mutual respect and appreciation. LaTonya’s new roof is more than just a structure; it represents a commitment from the community to support its veterans.
For many veterans, returning to civilian life comes with its own set of challenges. By participating in acts of kindness and providing tangible support, residents can make a significant difference in their lives. Programs like the Roof Deployment Project pave the way for ongoing assistance and recognition, ensuring that veterans’ sacrifices are honored in meaningful ways.
Lexington has shown that it stands behind its heroes, ready to support them both during and after their service. This heartwarming event has inspired many to think about how they can contribute to honoring those who protect our freedom. Small acts of kindness and community involvement can have a lasting impact, reminding us all of the importance of giving back.
If you are a veteran, know that your service is valued. Community members are eager to support you in any way possible. Whether it’s through local organizations, outreach events, or simply a kind word, appreciation for your dedication persists. Lexington’s efforts are a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together to recognize the sacrifices made by its service members.
As LaTonya Bartholomew looks forward to the future with her family under their new roof, let this serve as an inspiration for others. Whether you serve in the military or stand behind those who do, every act of kindness counts. Together, we can all contribute to a brighter, more supportive community.
