Lexington and Danville Kick Off Holiday Celebrations with Festive Activities and Performances

Lexington, Kentucky is bustling with holiday festivities this weekend, offering a range of activities to celebrate the Christmas season.

The highlight of the festivities is “Elf The Musical Jr.”, a stage adaptation of the beloved Christmas movie. The show takes the audience on the journey of Buddy the Elf from the North Pole to New York City. Performances are set for Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with an additional show on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are still available online for those looking to enjoy the spirited performance at the Lexington Opera House.

This weekend also marks the return of the 2024 Lexington Holiday Parade, occurring on Saturday at 11 a.m. The parade will feature festive floats, marching bands, and a special appearance by Santa Claus. Starting at Midland Avenue and concluding at Mill Street, the event promises to be a cheerful celebration for families.

Following the parade, families can catch a screening of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at Lex Live at 12:30 p.m., furthering the Christmas spirit in downtown Lexington.

Meanwhile, Danville is also celebrating the holiday season with its Small Town Christmas event. Kicking off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, activities include story time with the Grinch, pictures with Santa at the Boyle County Public Library, and the festive Danville Polar Express. There will also be a vendor’s village for shopping, a tree decorating contest, and numerous children’s activities. The Christmas parade will conclude the day’s events at 6:30 p.m.

This weekend presents a plethora of activities across the commonwealth, making it an excellent opportunity for families to embrace the holiday spirit. Whether enjoying a musical, watching a parade, or visiting Santa, there’s something for everyone in Lexington and Danville.
